Manuka essential oil is similar, in action, to tea tree (both have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral actions) . . . but not as prone to cause irritation.  For this reason, I like to use it as an alternative to tea tree in many skin applications; it's especially good for reducing the appearance of blemishes due to its ability to help skin heal itself.  I'm honestly not crazy about the scent of manuka.  It's ok but not something that I want to wear as perfume . . . so I mix it with other skin-helping oils that have nicer scents . . . like our high altitude lavender.

Insect bites, fungal infections of the skin, diaper rash, bedsores, mild sunburn, and itching are other skin conditions that may be helped by manuka essential oil.  It's also a great addition to homemade deodorants and in mouthwash.

Some research indicates that manuka essential oil may be more effective against bacteria and fungi than tea tree and that it holds promise against antibiotic resistant bacteria.  For this reason, I find that it's a great oil to use in rotation with tea tree.  If I use tea tree for 10 days, I will switch to manuka to avoid chances of habitualization.

Other conditions that may benefit from manuka essential oil include:  respiratory conditions (manuka can help disrupt mucus), sore throats, anxiety and stress.

Manuka is also a great addition to diffuser blends for relaxation before bedtime.

With our pre-diluted oils . . . if diluted for kids is the highest dilution you see, it’s also the max dilution possible. Pre-diluted oils are in fractionated coconut oil.

Manuka Essential Oil Safety Info

While we’ve made this clear that we are selling this essential oil to use in your diffuser, your inhaler, or topically (diluted), it is a pure essential oil and can be used as such.  With all essential oils:

  • Never use them undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes (this includes mouth, ear canals, noses, genital regions as well as internal areas).  The strength of essential oils can easily damage these soft tissue areas.
  • Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner.
    Keep away from children.
  • If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier).

  • Oral Safety is only given because many people have been told to take oils internally.  Because several people look to us for safety advice, we feel obligated to offer those safety statements, although we do not believe anyone should be ingesting essential oils without being guided by an expert.  Experts will take your medical history into account before they suggest oils for you to ingest, diffuse, or use topically.
