Why the Color Caps?
Why the Color Caps?
It’s a Coding System!
This is my first blog. I wanted to start with one of the things that Dedi did that I loved. She wanted to assist her customers in seeing what age category each oil or blend fell into without having to look each one up. She had created an age appropriate chart – Downloadable Dilution Chart, which made it one easy place to go to for this information. (We will be expanding this chart to encompass the oils added to the inventory since that time.
So, why isn’t this easy chart enough? Well, let’s be honest, if you’re grabbing oils in a pinch, if you aren’t very knowledgeable about each oil, you may not go back to that chart. Some, less than appropriately educated individuals, are telling others to utilize oils that may not be safe or safe beyond a particular dilution for differing portions of the population. And what about blends? They aren’t on the chart. (We may add a blends chart in the future.)
Dedi pondered and experimented with many ideas. I loved the idea of making this easy for newer and/or less knowledgeable individuals creating blends. She thought of putting something on the label. I had told Dedi about the Broselow Pediatric Emergency Tape – Broselow Tape. It was a color coding system for estimating child weight for emergency medication administration. (It’s much more complicated than that but it was my contribution to her brainstorming.)
Dedi came up with the great idea to put it on the cap. This way you can see it easily no matter which way you store your oils. She chose the basic colors for the age groups. Even this wasn’t without a lot of trial and error on her part. She created, evaluated, and adjust both the colors and the color of the names until she came up with colors that were easily distinguished from each other and lettering that was easily read. If you can’t tell, I have great admiration for her diligence to whatever she does and her deep concern for those that she provides for. She is still assisting behind the scenes to aid me in getting fully integrated in all the workings of the website.
Now that I’ve told you about the cap coding, let me tell you why. You’re going to see the caps coming back onto the bottles. One by one, you’ll see the oils and blends that were added getting cap colors.
Safe usage is of prime importance. Safe and effective usage is the goal. Sharing The Essential Oil Love (Facebook) was started to be a group to share our knowledge and assist each other to utilize essential oils in the most appropriate way. Cap coding is one way that we can help as many as possible to use their oils safely.
